Election Results

Voters approve record-breaking Prop 2½ override. Arlington residents passed Question 1 on Saturday, approving a $14.8 million operating override — reported as the largest ever approved by voters in Massachusetts. The final unofficial tally was 9,666 in favor and 3,775 against, out of 13,508 total ballots cast (about 41% turnout). For the average single-family home assessed at $1.2 million, the override adds roughly $1,030 to the annual tax bill, with funding set to begin July 1, 2026. Mahon and Solomon win Select Board seats. Incumbent Diane M. Mahon led the field with 9,015 votes; newcomer Joseph A. Solomon came in second with 7,978 votes to claim the two open seats on the Select Board. YourArlington

School Committee incumbents hold; Haynes Copithorne wins one-year seat. Crystal S. Haynes Copithorne won the contested one-year School Committee seat, while incumbents Elizabeth R. Exton, Laura B. Gitelson, and Paul Schlichtman were re-elected to three-year terms. YourArlington

Housing Authority incumbent survives close race. Nicholas C. Mitropoulos narrowly held his Housing Authority seat, defeating Jacob Henry Deck 5,005 to 4,717. YourArlington

Question 2 passes, adding liquor licenses. Voters approved two additional off-premise liquor licenses for the town, 9,336 to 3,775. YourArlington

"No Kings" rally draws 3,000 to Mass. Ave. A peaceful protest Saturday morning filled the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Pleasant Street from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., part of a coordinated national day of action. The Arlington Police Department estimated attendance at 3,000 and reported no arrests or incidents. The event was organized by a coalition including Indivisible Arlington and the Arlington Democrats. Housing

Affordable housing project underway in East Arlington. The Housing Corporation of Arlington broke ground March 13 on a 43-unit, 100% affordable building at 10 Sunnyside Avenue, the former Alewife Automotive Center site. All units are deed-restricted for households below 60% of Area Median Income; 15 units are reserved for those below 30% AMI. The roughly $25 million project is expected to be complete by summer 2027.
