Street Sweeping Begins Monday, April 6

Thorndike Place Wetlands Permit Under MassDEP Review

The Thorndike Place Residential Community — 124 senior rental apartments and 6 duplex homes on the 17.7-acre Mugar site, with roughly 12 acres of preserved open space — is under de novo review by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The appeal followed a 2-2 tie vote at the Arlington Conservation Commission in March 2025, which resulted in no local action. Town of Arlington

ACA Executive Director Tom Formicola Stepping Down

Tom Formicola, who has led the Arlington Center for the Arts since October 2019, announced he is stepping down after a 38-year career in nonprofit administration. He guided ACA through the COVID-19 pandemic and advanced a community accessibility plan. The ACA Board will begin a formal search for a successor; Formicola's final major event is the "Studio ACA" spring gala on April 11. YourArlington

In Memoriam: Bob Radochia, Town Meeting Member, Dies at 85

Robert "Bob" Radochia, a longtime Arlington Town Meeting member and civic advocate known as "Colonel Bob" for greeting Patriots Day reenactors each year, died March 23, 2026, at age 85. He served on the Arlington Committee on Tourism and Economic Development and was a frequent voice at Select Board meetings. YourArlington

Town Plants 150 Street Trees; Community Canopy Program Open

The Arlington Tree Department is planting 150 street trees across town this spring, including 10 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and 20 in Arlington Heights. The Tree Committee has also launched its Community Canopy Program ahead of Arbor Day (April 24), offering reduced-cost trees for private property — residents in heat-island areas are especially encouraged to participate.
