Override Vote Is Tomorrow

Polls open Saturday, March 28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters will decide whether to allow the town to assess an additional $14.8 million in property taxes to fund operating budgets beginning July 1, 2026. If the measure fails, schools face a projected $5–$6 million deficit and the potential elimination of 57 to 120 positions; if it passes, the owner of a home assessed at the town average of $1.2 million would pay roughly $1,030 more per year. Ballot Races to Watch

Saturday's election includes uncontested Select Board seats (Diane M. Mahon and Joseph A. Solomon) and three uncontested School Committee three-year seats. Two races are contested: three candidates — Shaun D. Berry, Crystal S. Haynes Copithorne, and Dmitry Missiuro Vasilyev — are vying for a single one-year School Committee seat. Excise Tax Deadline Passed — Pay Now to Avoid Penalties

Town Moves Legal Notices Online

As of February 20, Arlington began publishing all legal notices on its official website, ending more than a century of print-only publication. The shift was enabled by House Bill 4027 and is intended to save money and reduce turnaround times. Arlington Town Website

Recycling Now Costs the Town Up to $500K a Year

Falling global commodity prices mean Arlington now pays roughly $125 per ton to process recyclables — up from effectively nothing when haulers covered those fees. With an estimated 4,400 tons of recycling generated annually, the town's bill could hit $500,000 this fiscal year. Town Manager Jim Feeney cited the plummeting "blended value" of paper, plastic, and metal. YourArlington
